Oleksandr Yurkin, Chairman of the Trade Union Federation, has resigned. According to the statement of the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions, on July 14, O. Yurkin sent his resignation due to the present situation in the Federation to the Board of Trade Unions Federation. The Presidium of the Trade Unions Federation of Ukraine terminated authorities of Oleksandr Yurkin as Federation Chairman by his request. On July 14, heads of a number of sectoral trade unions, particularly, of housing and utilities, culture, public health, metallurgical and ore-mining industries trade unions called on O. Yurkin to resign until a meeting of the Federation board, scheduled for July 17. Earlier above mentioned trade unions had expressed no confidence in O. Yurkin, motivating this with an authoritarian style of management, his ignoring opinions of sectoral organizations and not-transparent management of trade unions' property. O. Yurkin stated about the pressure from business structures for replacing Federation leaders. Oleksandr Yurkin became head of the Trade Unions Federation in January 2005, when the federation board elected him instead of Oleksandr Stoyan, who had been the dismissed in accordance with his application.
